The highstreet is doomed!!! That’s what people will have you believe and these people my friends are wrong. Sure it’s extremely tough out there in 2020. Look a little closer and you will see that all is not lost .. infact quite the opposite is true.
Over the past couples of years Hertford has seen some fantastic small independent retailers set up shop in town. This trend shows no sign of letting up with new shops and eateries opening througout the year.
Now I know that there will be people reading thinking “what’s he on about?” It’s true though! Hertford has some amazing independent shops … lets meet them 🙂
Truly loved by the people of Hertford, the town just wouldn’t be the same without Messages. The shop that sells almost everything you could want and many items that you need (you just don’t know it yet). Great for birthdays and our balloon specialist. Personally the pocket money toy section has been the go to place to treat my kids growing up.
Eye Mind Heart
As the name suggests this amazing shop is a feast for your eyes, your mind and heart. Full of unique gifts, books, homewares and more. Tori and the team are just great, if you are visiting Hertford I would urge you to visit this brilliant store.
Love Flowers on Market Street is a florist and gift shop in one. Full of charm this stunning shop front wouldn’t look out of place 100 years ago.
Brothership Art Studio
Home of the iconic “Love Bomb” the Brothership is all about art on walls. Hertfords pemier art destination and a tribe of pure talent. Check this awesome place out!
A real upmarket feel. Pretty Lavish is .. well ….Pretty Lavish in every sense of the phrase. Beautiful ladies store on Fore Street.
Retail Therapy is a fab little ladies boutique located on St Andrews Street, Hertford. With more than 28 years of experience, and an excellent knowledge and understanding of the industry, the helpful team are on hand to assist you throughout your visit.

The Hertford Cake Co could really be in a foodie list but lets be honest these cakes are a “gift”. Independant and amazing we just had to give them a mention. If you are visiting you really must try these cakes!

What an amazing place in town! Rossi’s Attic opened in 2020 and is packed full of charm. An authentic vintage and retro store. Inside you will find a number of spaces each showcasing a different type of vintage from a different dealer. Like a mini retro market under one roof… really fantastic shop.

An award winning fixture on the highstreet since 2006. This independant boutique provides a truly wonderful experience and strive to help women look and feel fabulous.
Roberto Gerrards is an independant menswear fashion store stoing many big name and designer brands including Ted Baker, Lacoste, Barbour and Superdry.
Harry Joseph Tailoring
One of towns most recent openings is Harry Joseph Tailoring on St Andrews Street. They offer “true British tailoring” bespoke and made to measure. They say “A client for us, is a client for life”.

Wow we LOVE Five And Dime on Fore Street. This unique gift shop has been featured in a number of articles and nominated for awards. Lots of fantastic gifts on display, a must visit.
Hertfords zero waste shop has been a hit with locals searching for a greener, more sustainable lifestyle. Situated in the center of town in an old fashioned charming setting.
Magpie Amore has been bringing Hertford trendy, quirky one off vintage items from around the globe since 2015. On of Hertfords success stories they recently moved into a new bigger store over two floors.
